Western Washington, USA
01
From the Pacific Ocean to Puget Sound, Mount St. Helen's to the Olympic National Park, hiking and biking trails, and all the amenities downtown Seattle has to offer, Western Washington has something for everybody. The following collections come from my local travels throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Whidbey Island - 2021
Whidbey Island is like the friendly neighbor you never knew you had. Charming, with a natural beauty and artistic flair - it pulls you in. The island has a thriving arts community, and many artists and craftspeople call it home.
In early June, I attended a four day photography workshop on Whidbey Island, which was both a vacation for me, and a chance to focus on photography without all of the other distractions that life has to offer. I had a wonderful time, and met some great people.
Olympic Peninsula - 2020
This was the year of COVID-19, and by September, I was desperate for a change of scenery. Travel, anywhere more than a few hours from home was out of the question. Some counties in Washington state had started opening up (later to be closed again as the most devastating wave of new cases crested), but many public facilities were still closed. The US-Canada border had been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, and American travelers were unwelcome everywhere. Lucky for me that the Olympic Peninsula was just far enough away to seem like a getaway, with plenty of uncrowded trails and beaches to soothe the soul.
So I packed up some plastic table cloths and sanitizing wipes, plus all of the food and gear that I needed to be safe in the little rental I found. It was perfect - a comfy room with heated floors in the bathroom, a full kitchen, and not far from the ocean beaches. It was just what I needed to stay sane.
